IAAF Certified Running Track Surfaces for Schools, Clubs and Councils

Aloro Sport SW is a World Athletics (IAAF) certified running track system, built for everything from school sports grounds to elite competition venues. This polyurethane sandwich system gives athletes a consistent, high-performance synthetic surface that stays safe, grippy and reliable in all conditions.

The system is approximately 14mm thick and is built in three layers. An SBR rubber base gives shock absorption and comfort underfoot. A pore sealer locks the base in place. A self-levelling polyurethane top layer with embedded EPDM rubber granules provides excellent spike resistance, grip and durability. The finished surface is impermeable, so water runs off it rather than soaking in, which helps the track last longer with less maintenance.

For Aloro Sport SW running tracks installs across Australia. That covers new athletics tracks, resurfacing existing tracks, and running lanes, long jump runways and multi-sport areas. Every project is different, so talk to our team about your site, base and layout for a tailored quote.

INSTALLATION PROCESS

1. Base Layer
The SBR granules are mixed with the PU binder. This mixture is then leveled and troweled to create the base layer of the system.
2. Middle Layer
Pore sealer is applied on top of the SBR wet pour flooring (10mm thickness).
3. Top Layer
Self-leveling Polyurethane and EPDM granules are embedded into the PU layer. This creates a water impermeable sandwich system of approximately 14mm overall thickness.

FAQs

What base the track needs, asphalt vs concrete, lead times, how long it lasts, maintenance, line marking, colours.
1

What base does a running track need?

Aloro Sport SW goes on a solid, stable base of asphalt or concrete. The base needs to be level, fully cured, clean and dry, with the right falls built in for drainage. The finished surface is impermeable, so water has to run off it rather than through it. We check the base as part of every quote. If it isn't suitable, we can advise on what's needed to prepare it.

2

Can it go on asphalt or concrete, and which is better?

It can go on either. Each base uses its own primer rate (RB-710 at 0.15 kg/m² on asphalt and 0.2 kg/m² on concrete). Asphalt is the most common base for athletics tracks because it's cost-effective over large areas and has a little flex. Concrete suits smaller areas or sites where concrete is already in place. Either way, a new base must be fully cured before the track goes down.

3

Can you resurface an existing track?

Often, yes. It depends on the condition of the existing surface and the base underneath. We'll inspect the site and recommend a full new system or a resurface.

4

How thick is the track system?

About 14mm in total. That's an SBR rubber base layer, a pore sealer, and a self-levelling PU top layer with EPDM granules embedded in it.

5

Is it certified for competition?

Yes. Aloro Sport SW is World Athletics (IAAF) certified. It meets the requirements for force reduction, vertical deformation, friction and tensile properties. The full test results are in the technical specifications above.

6

What are the lead times, and how long does installation take?

It depends on the size of the project, where the site is and the time of year. Installation is weather-dependent because the system needs dry conditions and suitable temperatures to cure properly. As a guide, allow [X weeks] from order to start and [X days/weeks] on site for a standard [400m track / area size]. Contact us for a timeline for your project.

7

How long does the track last?

With regular maintenance, a sandwich system like Aloro Sport SW typically lasts 10–15 years before the top layer needs renewing. Lifespan depends on how much it's used, the climate and how well it's looked after.

8

How do I maintain the track?

Keep it clean by regularly blowing or sweeping away leaves, dirt and debris. Wash it down periodically with water, and remove any contamination like oil or chewing gum promptly. Keep vehicles and heavy equipment off the surface unless it's protected, and make sure athletes use spikes of the right length. An optional A-710 aliphatic sealing lacquer can be applied for extra UV protection.

9

Do you do line marking?

Yes. Lines are applied with Aloro Line Paint. Lane and event markings can be set out to World Athletics specifications for competition tracks, or to a custom layout for schools and training areas.

10

What colours are available?

Red is the standard track colour, but we do offer other Bounce EPDM colours like Blue, green, grey etc, which may be available on request, and a different colour can change pricing and lead times. Ask us about colour options when you request a quote.

11

How much does a running track cost?

Every project is different. The price depends on the area, the condition of the base, access to the site, where it is, and extras like line marking. Send us your plans or site details and we'll provide a tailored quote.
