The 7-Step Synthetic Turf Installation Guide
Follow these steps for a clean, level, and durable synthetic turf installation.
Step 1: Excavate the Area
Remove existing grass, soil, and debris to around 70–100mm depth. Ensure a gentle gradient (1–2%) for drainage. Use a spade, shovel, and wheelbarrow to clear and level the area before adding base layers.
Step 2: Prepare the Sub-Base
A solid foundation ensures your lawn stays level and resilient.

Spread a 70–80mm layer of crushed rock or road base and level it.

Compact the base with a plate compactor or roller until firm.

Add a 20mm layer of crusher dust or sand and compact again for a smooth surface.
Step 3: Roll Out Your Artificial Grass
Unroll your turf and ensure all pieces face the same direction for consistent colour.
Allow it to rest in the sun for 1–2 hours to remove creases. Trim roughly, leaving about 50mm excess at edges.

Step 4: Join the Seams
Align rolls with a 2–3mm gap between them. Fold both sides back and apply Artificial Grass Joining Tape shiny side down. Spread Artificial Grass Glue evenly using a Seam Fix Tool for an even bond, then press down firmly.
Let the adhesive cure as directed before continuing.
Step 5: Cut & Secure the Edges
Trim neatly with a utility knife or turf cutter, then secure edges using Artificial Grass Pins / Pegs every 200–300mm. This prevents lifting or movement over time.
Step 6: Apply the Infill
Spread Kiln-Dried Infill Sand evenly across the turf (5–10kg/m² depending on pile height).
Use an Infill Applicator or Drop Spreader for even coverage, then brush the surface to distribute the sand and lift fibres.
Step 7: Brush Up the Pile
Use a stiff outdoor broom (available in our Install Tools collection) to brush against the grain, helping the fibres stand tall and giving your lawn a lush, natural look.
Installing Artificial Grass on Concrete or Pavers
When working on hard surfaces such as concrete, tiles, or pavers, the process is very similar to a standard turf installation — only the base preparation differs.
Before you start, make sure the surface meets the following criteria:

Clean, level, and dry: Sweep away any dust, debris, or loose material. If the surface isn’t level, you can use sand cement or a self-levelling compound to fill in uneven areas or undulations before laying the turf.

Comfort and drainage: Consider adding a shock pad or foam underlay beneath your turf to improve comfort underfoot and promote water drainage on non-porous surfaces.

Secure edges: Fix the perimeter using Artificial Grass Glue instead of pins, since pins cannot be driven into hard bases.
