Synthetic Grass Frequently Asked Questions

How Do You Clean Synthetic Grass?

Artificial turf requires minimal maintenance compared to natural grass, eliminating the need for mowing, watering, fertilising, and pest control. This can result in significant cost savings over time, especially for large areas like sports fields or community green spaces. However, whilst it is low-maintenance, there is a small amount of upkeep required. Aloro Group recommends that you regularly remove debris and leaves with a leaf blower or rake, and occasionally rinse the synthetic turf with water to remove dust and traces of pet waste. For more thorough cleaning, you can use a mild detergent and water, brushing the fibres to keep them upright and prevent matting.

Can You Lay Synthetic Grass On Concrete?

Yes, synthetic grass can be installed over concrete provided the surface is clean, dry, and free of any debris or loose particles. The concrete should also be smooth and even so that the synthetic grass adhesive can be spread evenly across the surface. When you apply the adhesive, allow it to develop some initial tack which takes around 5-10 minutes in moderate temperatures. Then, lower the synthetic grass into the wet film of adhesive and roll it out to ensure a good transfer of adhesive has occurred.

How Long Does Synthetic Grass Last?

When you buy high-quality synthetic grass it will remain vibrantly green and aesthetically pleasing for a long time. We suggest a lifespan of between 10 and 15 years, however this also depends on the amount of wear and tear the surface is exposed to and how it has been cared for. Correct installation and site preparation will extend its life, and with occasional maintenance such as brushing and hosing down, our high-quality artificial turf can withstand heavy foot traffic and various weather conditions without significant signs of wear.

Does Synthetic Grass Get Hot?

Yes, synthetic grass is made of materials that absorb heat, making it warmer on hot days. However synthetic turf doesn’t get as hot as sand, rocks, concrete or tiles. If you are concerned about the temperature of your grass, you can provide shade with a canopy, gazebo or awning as well as landscaping the perimeter with trees and shrubs. Careful selection of infill material can make a difference too. Crumb rubber absorbs more heat and loses it more slowly, whereas sand can hold heat for longer. However, there are other factors to consider when you choose an infill material – the team at Aloro Group can guide you on how to get the best results.
