Balcony Grass Frequently Asked Questions

How Do You Maintain Artificial Grass On A Balcony?

Cleaning artificial turf on your balcony is a simple process – made even simpler thanks to the compact floor area! Using a broom or a compact leaf blower, you can easily brush or blow away any surface debris and leaves. You can even use the reverse/blow function on your vacuum if you have this option. For pet mess and other stains that require a more robust cleanup, warm water and mild soap can be used to gently scrub the synthetic turf on your balcony, washing off with clean water.

Do I Need Underlay For Artificial Grass On My Balcony?

Artificial grass being laid on a balcony typically would not need an underlay. In the majority of cases, the grass is laid directly over the concrete which can reduce the likelihood of trip hazards, as the underlay can add extra height (and cost). However, underlay can add additional softness and shock absorption, which may be useful in aged care facilities or areas that have small children playing such as childcare centres. Our purpose-designed underlay shock pad rolls and shock pad tiles are ideal for these kinds of applications.

Does Artificial Grass Drain Properly On Balconies?

Yes, if your artificial balcony grass is properly installed, it will drain away water easily without any water logging or pooling. Note that if you have any pre-existing issues with drainage on your balcony, it’s best to rectify these before you install synthetic grass over the top.

Will Artificial Grass Fade In The Sun On My Balcony?

Aloro’s range of artificial balcony grass is tough, hard-wearing and UV-resistant making it the perfect variety of turf for balcony use. High-quality synthetic turf from Aloro Group has an industry-leading 16 year warranty when properly installed and looked after – even in full sun. Balcony grass will hold up against UV radiation, giving you a practical, versatile and visually pleasing balcony area to enjoy all year round.

Does Artificial Grass Increase The Temperature On A Balcony?

While artificial grass may warm up when exposed to direct sunlight, adding shaded areas, awnings and plants can help manage the temperature. If you are concerned about the temperature of your turf, you can also opt for cooling technology in the grass itself to reduce excess heat. Products such as our 40mm Platinum Cool Landscape Grass feature minimum-glare strands that reflect infrared light, delivering a turf that stays up to 15% cooler than standard synthetic alternatives.

Can I Put Artificial Grass On Top Of Tiles Or Concrete On My Balcony?

Yes, synthetic grass can be installed on concrete balconies provided the surface is clean, dry, and free of any debris or loose particles. The concrete should also be smooth and even so that the synthetic grass adhesive can be spread evenly across the surface. When you apply the adhesive, allow it to develop some initial tack which takes around 5-10 minutes in moderate temperatures. Then, lower the synthetic grass into the wet film of adhesive and roll it out to ensure a good transfer of adhesive has occurred.
